Use this rent split calculator when two roommates want something more flexible than a simple 50/50 split. You can keep shared space equal while weighting part of the rent by bedroom size.
How the split works
The shared-space percentage is divided equally. The remaining portion is divided according to each bedroom's square footage. If you set shared space to 100%, the result becomes a 50/50 split. If you set it to 0%, the split is based entirely on bedroom size.
When this approach is useful
Roommates often have different-size bedrooms even though they share the kitchen, living room, and other common areas. A blended method can provide a neutral starting point for discussion.
What this tool does not measure
Bedroom size is only one factor. Private bathrooms, parking, views, storage, noise, and other amenities may also matter. Use the result as a starting point rather than a rule.
